Elementary School Division:
BRYC Volleyball is for both Boys and Girls. They play together on the same team. The players in this level are from 4th, 5th and 6th grade. This is a
developmental league since it is first time on a volleyball court for
most of the players. Basic skills of the game are taught as well as
rules and court conduct. Fun is encouraged through an element of competition.
The players in this level are from 7th and 8th grade. Ball handling skills
are still developing for passing and setting. Most of the players are still
serving underhand, however they are encouraged to serve over-hand. For some
of the players, this is their first experience with competitive volleyball.
The coaches teach the basic volleyball strategies to help advance the players
to the next level of competition. Team selections and made with the intent of
having all teams equally skilled. There is a year-end All Star Tournament.
Players selected to the All Star team will get a chance to play against teams
from other leagues. The Middle School Division is open to both boys and girls following Co-ed rules.
The players in this level range from 9th to 12th grade. The ball handling
skills are solid for passing, setting and over-hand serving. The players
have good understanding of volleyball strategy both offensively and defensively.
Team selections are made with the intent of having all teams equally skilled.
There is a year-end All Star Tournament. Players selected to the All Star team
will get a chance to play against teams from other leagues. The High School Division is open to both boys and girls following Co-ed rules.
There are two divisions for Travel Volleyball, one for Middle School
and one for High School. Tryouts for both divisions take place prior to
the Spring Season. The skills for the Travel players are superior to those
on the House teams. In past years, the players who made the Travel Team also
were allowed to play on a House Team. Each season is different based on
talent and quantity of players. The Travel Team competes against other
Travel Teams in the Northern Virginia area. Please note on your registration
form if you are interested in trying out. The Travel Division is open to both boys and girls following Co-ed rules.
